Wildlife Area

Eco-Schools is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a framework to help embed these principles into the heart of school life.

Nine Topics

The Eco-Schools programme is focused on nine key topics. These are:

School grounds
Healthy living
Global citizenship

We are working towards achieving the Green Flag Award. Our major project is the development of the wildlife area. This is a joint project with the PTFA and parents. One of our parents has designed the area. This is the plan that has been designed.

We are currently working on the pond area. Our progress can be seen below.

With some of the tress that we have had to cut down and clear we have made a safe haven for hedgehogs and other small animals.

We have a resident robin who is very friendly. We have also been lucky enough to have had birds nesting in our bird boxes over the summer.

We have been busy planting trees.

Our wildlife area is nearly complete. We have allsorts of bugs and insects visiting our pond. We have seen the heron searching for his dinner and have been lucky enough to see a few bright blue dragon flies. We have had an abundance of tadpoles this spring and have some very large frogs.

The wild meadow has taken off and we have lots of bees happily buzzing around the garden. They have taken up residency in one of our bird boxes hung under the trees.

Our vegetables are growing well and we have had our first crop.
